Our project for the new Intermediae Art Center of artistic creation is an open field of interconnected spaces, an interdisciplinary environment for exploring the social and cultural transformation of our society. As the Art production is often emerging at the periphery of the institution, we did not try here to formalize borders or to delineate any forms of interaction or production. We kept most of the existing buildings with their spatial quality as the “infrastructural hardscape” of the Intermediae Creation Center for spaces of artistic research, public access and exchange. We introduced a “soft connector” between the 2 main concrete buildings, as a continuous series of ramps, stairs and plateaux of copper grating which is suspended in the central void. The “soft connector”, both links the exhibition spaces to the Mediateca and the administrative offices on one hand, and on the other hand, feeds the existing halls with technological support : network cables, power sources, video feed, ultra fast broadband access, and central network management systems for the center. It is a smart architectural organism, which interacts with first generation space of the concrete halls. The “soft connector” leaves natural light penetrating deep inside of the building and brings an informational feed in the exhibition and exchange spaces. The Intermediae Art Center explores a process of transformation, from industrial to information paradigm, which affects all fields of experience, creation and knowledge.

Notre projet pour le nouveau centre d'art de création artistique Intermediae est un champ ouvert d'espaces interconnectés, un environnement inter-disciplinaire pour l'exploration des transformations sociales et culturelles de notre société. Tout comme la production d'art emerge souvent à la périphérie de la constitution, nous n'essayons pas ici de former des bords ou de tracer toutes formes d'interactions ou de productions. Nous gardons la plupart du bâtiment existant, avec ses qualités spatiales comme "infrastructure hardscape" du Centre de création Intermediae, pour les espaces de recherches artistiques, d'echanges et d'accès au publique. Nous mettons en place un "soft connector" entre les deux principaux bâtiments en béton, comme une rampes continues, d'escaliers et de plateaux de cuivre ajouré, suspendu au dessus du vide central. Le "soft connector" crée d'une part le lien avec les espaces d'expositions vers la médiathèque et les espaces de bureau, et d'autre part, alimente les halls existants avec des supports technologiques : réseau de cables, sources d'alimentations, moniteur vidéos, accès haut-débit, systême central de gestion du réseau. C'est une organisation architecturale intelligente, qui interagit avec l'espace de première génération des murs de bétons. Le "soft connector" laisse la lumière naturelle pénétrée profondément le bâtiment et apporte un apport d'informations dans les espaces d'expositions et d'echanges. Le centre d'art Intermediae explore un processus de transformation, de l'industriel au paradigme de l'information, qui touche tous les champs de l'expérience, de la création et du savoir.

Nuestro proyecto para el nuevo Centro de Creación Artística Intermediae, es un campo abierto de interconexiones espaciales, un ambiente interdisciplinar donde explorar las transformaciones sociales y culturales de nuestra sociedad. Al igual que la producción artística a menudo emerge en la periféria de las instituciones, nuestra propuesta intenta no formalizar los bordes ni delimitar las formas de interacción o producción. Mantenemos la mayor parte del edifico existente y su carácter espacial, como el “hardscape infrastructural” del Centro Intermediae; espacios de investigación artística y funciones públicas.Introducimos un “soft conector” entre los dos principales volúmenes existentes, es una sucesión contínua de rampas, escaleras y plataformas de rejilla metálica que se suspende en el vacío central. Este “soft conector” tiene la doble función de conectar los espacios de exposición con la Meidateca y con las oficinas y de alimentar con soporte tecnológico la estructura existente: alimentación de video, rápida conexión a internet, sistema central de network ...Constituye un organísmo arquitectónico que se adapta e interacciona con la primera generación de estructura de hormigón. El “soft conector” deja penetrar la luz natural hasta el fondo del edificio y aporta la alimentación informática a los espacios de exposición e intercambio. Este proyecto explora los procesos de transformación, desde industrial a paradigma informático, que actualmente afectan a los campos de la experiencia, la creación y el conocimiento. |
