Located at the edge of La Défense, the business district of Paris, this office building was built in the sixties in collaboration with Jean Prouvé. To host the new Paris Headquarters of Arcade group, a national facility management company, it needed to be extended and a complete renovation to adapt to new technological and safety issues. The existing steel structure was completely cleaned, and a new partitioning of the space was necessary to give maximum flexibility and evolution potential to the plateaus.
The façade on the Rue Paul Lafargue, is an innovative curtain wall of stainless steel and laminated glass. The brises-soleil, placed perpendicular to the glass façade, give sun protection on the south East curtain wall. They are made of Vanceva laminated glass in a green color matching the color of the identity of the brand Arcade. With the reflection of the sunlight on these “wings”, they color the whole staircase behind the façade in a deep green. They also acts as louvers to keep privacy within the office building and leave the views open to the street from the inside.
On the ground floor, the lobby is located in the former loading platform of the building. It combines sandblasted glass, green pressed wood with a green limestone floor and steps.
On the roof top, a garden inspired by japanese garden has a large elevated wooden deck to host the cultural and social event of the company, with a views on the La defense Skyline. It is composed of a bamboo forest, clematis covered walls, an hair grass pool in the middle of the deck and a tortuous Acer Palmatum japonica.
